The first threshold rose by $750 and the second by $1,625, because the thresholds are indexed with the amounts. The reduction rates did not change.

The second look

How the benefit shrinks as income rises

The rate on the next dollar above $82,847Above $82,847 each extra dollar costs less benefit, because a fixed reduction has already taken most of it.
  1. One child[1]3.2%
  2. Two children[1]5.7%
  3. Three children[1]8%
  4. Four or more children[1]9.5%
Reduction rates in the CRA’s formula[1].

Ottawa’s headline is the maximum, “up to $8,157”. What a family gets is the maximum minus a reduction. From $38,237 to $82,847 of income the benefit is cut by 7% of each extra dollar with one child, 13.5% with two, 19% with three and 23% with four or more. That is a rate on the family’s next dollar, and it comes on top of the income tax and payroll deductions on the same dollar. The calculator shows those.

Payments follow last year’s income. The 2026-27 payments use 2025 income, so a raise in 2025 reaches the benefit only from July 2026[1].

Ottawa’s number, rebuilt

A two-child family, worked from the formula

From the maximum to what the family getsESDC’s example family of two children loses $3,613 of a $15,040 maximum.
  1. Maximum for the two children[1, 2]$15,040
  2. Reduction at the example income[1]$3,613
  3. ESDC says, approximately[2]$11,430
  4. drained.ca’s arithmetic$11,427
ESDC’s example [2]; the other bars are drained.ca’s arithmetic from the CRA formula.

A worked example, in the government’s own numbers. ESDC says a family with a child aged 5 and one aged 9 and $65,000 of income receives approximately $11,430[2]. Our arithmetic from the formula: the two maximums come to $15,040, the reduction is $3,613, and what is left is $11,427. That is drained.ca’s arithmetic, not a CRA figure.

Ottawa’s case. ESDC says the benefit is indexed to inflation and reaches about 3,600,000 families caring for 6,000,000 children, approximately $30 billion a year in tax-free payments[2]. Those are the government’s figures. The family’s own number is the one the formula gives at its income.

The rule

What sets the number

The Act’s base amounts, and what is paid after indexationThe Income Tax Act fixes the base amounts; indexation to the consumer price index lifts them to the amounts paid.
  1. Under 6, in the Act[6]$6,400
  2. Under 6, paid 2026-27[1, 2]$8,157
  3. 6 to 17, in the Act[6]$5,400
  4. 6 to 17, paid 2026-27[1, 2]$6,883
Income Tax Act, s. 122.61[6], and the CRA’s amounts page.

Section 122.61 of the Income Tax Act sets the benefit as a base amount per child, with base thresholds of $30,000 and $65,000. The base amounts are $6,400 for a child under 6 and $5,400 for a child 6 to 17[6]. Each July they are indexed by the change in the consumer price index over the twelve months to September 30 of the base year[6], which is how they become the amounts the CRA pays.

The CRA has not posted its calculation sheet for July 2026 to June 2027: its index of sheets stopped at 2025-26 when we checked on October 14, 2026[7]. The amounts above come from the CRA’s “How much you can get” page; this page will cite the sheet as well when it appears.

Questions people ask

How much is the Canada Child Benefit per child from July 2026 to June 2027?

Up to $8,157 a year ($679.75 a month) for each child under 6 and up to $6,883 a year ($573.58 a month) for each child 6 to 17. The full amount goes to a family with 2025 adjusted family net income under $38,237. In 2025-26 the maximums were $7,997 and $6,748.

Disability

Child disability benefit

The child disability benefit, 2026-27 beside 2025-26Up to $3,480 a year for each child who qualifies for the disability tax credit.
  1. Child disability benefit, 2026-27[1, 4]$3,480
  2. Child disability benefit, 2025-26[3]$3,411
Each bar carries the marker of its document.

A child who qualifies for the disability tax credit adds up to $3,480 a year ($290.00 a month) to the CCB, up from $3,411[1, 3, 4]. It starts to be reduced when adjusted family net income is above $82,847, up from $81,222[3, 4, 5], by 3.2% of the income above that with one eligible child or 5.7% with two or more[4].

The CRA publishes the CCB reduction and the disability benefit reduction separately. This page does not add them into one rate for a family that has both; the CRA’s calculation does that sum.

Another question

What is the CCB income threshold for 2026-27?

The benefit starts to shrink when adjusted family net income for 2025 is above $38,237, up from $37,487 last year. It shrinks faster for each extra dollar until $82,847, and more slowly above that (last year's second threshold was $81,222).

More questions

How much does the CCB fall for each extra dollar of income?

Between $38,237 and $82,847, the benefit falls by 7% with one child, 13.5% with two children, 19% with three children, 23% with four or more children, of each extra dollar of family income. Above $82,847 the rates drop to 3.2%, 5.7%, 8%, 9.5% for one, two, three and four or more children, on top of a fixed reduction.

Is the Canada Child Benefit taxable?

No. The CRA says CCB payments are not taxable and do not have to be reported on your tax return. Your income still decides how much you get: the payment is set from last year’s adjusted family net income.
